Coming Aboard!

Hi Guys!

My name is Halley and I'm going to be the newest member of the crew. I'm joining up with the boat in Darwin at the beginning of September after I finish up my current job as an English teacher over here in South Korea.

What can I tell you about myself? Well, I was born and raised in Southern California where I started sailing at the age of 14. I haven't got the sort of sailing experience as Adam and Alan, but I've been off and on sailing a variety of boats since I learned how fun it was to harness the wind and ride the waves. Most of the sailing that I've done is actually on two 100 foot tall ships that act as the official tall ships of LA Harbor. Exy and Irving Johnson (the boats) are living classrooms where we take at-risk students out of inner city LA and take them sailing to teach them everything from teamwork to coiling line.

I went to school at UC Berkeley and majored in Environmental Sciences, so I am an avid environmentalist. I'm really looking forward to seeing all our beautiful ports o' call, exploring the ecology of each new place we go and learning more about the environmental problems that will have to be solved in this corner of the world. I'm also just looking forward to having an amazing time aboard!

So three more weeks in Korea and then I'll be the newest crew. Until then, Annyeong hi kesseyo! (goodbye in Korean).
